The Office Chief of the General Administration Department (GAD) in Meiktila Township, Mandalay Region, Myint Aye, was fatally shot on February 27 at around 9 AM while traveling from Yechoat Village to the GAD office in Meiktila town. The incident occurred between mile markers 9/4 and 9/5 on the Meiktila-Myingyan road, resulting in his immediate death. Local sources confirmed that Myint Aye was primarily responsible for collecting military service registration data in the area.
In a similar incident in Mon State, the village administrator of Nyaungkongyi Village in Paung Township, Myint Soe, was killed when armed individuals attacked his home on February 26 at around 6 AM. The attack occurred while both the administrator and his wife, Mi Ngae, were present at their residence. These incidents demonstrate the ongoing targeted attacks against administrative staff working under military rule.
These two incidents, occurring just a day apart in Meiktila and Paung Townships, both targeted officials working for the General Administration Department. According to local residents, such attacks appear to be part of broader efforts to disrupt the military’s administrative mechanisms. The targeting of administrative officials, particularly those involved in military service registration and local administration, reflects the ongoing resistance against the military council’s governance structures.
