THAILAND – The junta council’s subordinate Border Guard Force (BGF) is reported to have handed over 61 foreign nationals who were trafficked to the online scam rings in Shwekokko, Myawaddy Township, Karen State.
Thai Vice PM and Minister of Defence Phumthum Wechayachai accepted the trafficking victims at the No. 2 Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge at around 1:30 p.m. on February 6.
“Thailand welcomes all. If there are no complications after investigations in coordination with related embassies, they will be sent back to their home countries. Please trust us and assist us by sharing your experiences in there. Those statements on what is happening in there will be of great help to our attempts to eradicate these cross border crimes,” said Phumthum Wechayachai.
Among the 61 foreigners released from Shwekokko are 39 Chinese, 5 Indonesians, 13 Indians and one each from Ethiopia, Pakistan, Malaysia and Kazakhstan.
International research groups have pointed out that the online scam rings in Myawaddy Township grew in specific sites such as Shwekokko under the protection of junta subordinate BGF.
