The Fire Services Department has officially announced that 9 bodies have been recovered and 43 people have been rescued alive from the collapsed Sky Villa building in Aung Myay Thar San Township, Mandalay Region, following a powerful earthquake that struck on March 28. The earthquake occurred at 8:17 AM Myanmar Standard Time, with its epicenter in central Myanmar, measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale.
The Sky Villa building collapsed almost immediately after the earthquake, and rescue operations are being conducted intensively by teams from the Central Fire Services Training School, Pyin Oo Lwin Township Fire Brigade, and other relevant organizations. Rescue efforts are continuing around the clock, with specially trained rescue teams systematically searching for and extracting people trapped inside the building structure.
The rescue operations are being carried out with extreme caution, taking into consideration the risks of further collapse due to the structural damage. Teams are utilizing rescue equipment, search dogs, and advanced technology in their efforts to locate and save trapped individuals. Fire Services Department officials have stated that rescue operations will continue as there are believed to be more people still trapped inside the building.
