
The All Burma Federation of Student Unions (ABFSU) organized an anniversary ceremony commemorating the 8888 Democracy Movement in Base Area No. 3 within Wetlet Township. The ceremony was attended by representatives from various organizations including the National League for Democracy (Wetlet Township), Township People’s Administration Team, Township People’s Defense Force, Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) groups, Youth Liberation Group, and the Wetlet Township Public Strike Leading Committee.
The 8888 Democracy Movement remains a significant historical milestone in Myanmar’s journey towards democracy, continuing to resonate in the hearts and minds of the people to this day. The commemoration of this anniversary demonstrated the unity of the people who continue to resist the military dictatorship. During the ceremony, participants reaffirmed their commitment to continue the struggle for democracy in Myanmar. The event served as a powerful reminder of the ongoing resistance against military rule and the people’s determination to achieve genuine democratic reform.
The ceremony concluded with all attendees joining together to sing ‘Kabar Ma Kyay Bu’ (The World Didn’t End), which has become a symbol of Myanmar’s democracy movement. The event demonstrated how the people of Wetlet Township remain united in their struggle against the military dictatorship, showing solidarity through peaceful resistance and commemoration of this historic democratic uprising. The ceremony highlighted the continued relevance of the 8888 Movement’s democratic aspirations in the current context of Myanmar’s struggle for freedom and democracy.
