
An umbrella strike and protest against the military council was held in Daegu, South Korea on August 8th to commemorate the 8888 Uprising. The protest was led by the Daegu monk, a Spring Revolution activist. During the protest, the monk emphasized that Myanmar people must choose the path of revolution to break free from the military dictatorship, stating that liberation can only be achieved through revolution.
The monk stressed that at this time when the dictatorship is being particularly brutal, revolutionaries need to maintain strong unity and effective leadership. He emphasized that people must resist the oppressive dictatorship system with unwavering determination. Furthermore, he urged people to learn from the lessons of the 8888 Uprising and unite more strongly in the current Spring Revolution to overthrow the military dictatorship system.
Protesters carried white umbrellas and held signs and posters opposing the military dictatorship. They showed their support for the People’s Defense Forces and revolutionary groups who are fighting for Myanmar’s democracy and the establishment of a federal democratic system. The protesters also called for greater international support for the Myanmar people’s revolution. Participants demonstrated their solidarity with those fighting to completely eliminate the dictatorship system and establish genuine democracy in Myanmar, while urging the international community to provide more assistance to Myanmar’s revolutionary movement.
