A spokesperson from the 5th Battalion of Salin District has confirmed that eight military council soldiers, including Captain Phyo Maung, were killed during an ambush by resistance forces near Thanun Myaing checkpoint in Sinpaingwe Township, Magway Region. The incident occurred around 4 PM on April 23rd when revolutionary forces intercepted and attacked military council troops who were traveling by vehicle from Thanun Myaing checkpoint to Wase Myaing checkpoint.
During the engagement, Captain Phyo Maung and seven other military council soldiers were killed instantly, with several others sustaining injuries. Although military council forces at Wase Myaing checkpoint responded with heavy weapons fire, resistance fighters successfully withdrew from the area without suffering any casualties. The operation was carried out through coordinated efforts of multiple resistance groups, including the 5th Battalion of Salin District, Punnyawati People’s Defense Force (Taungdwingyi), Viper King Column, 1st Battalion of Salin District, Southern Magway People’s Defense Force, and Bessanoe People’s Defense Force (Taungdwingyi).
According to local sources, the military council forces in this region have been continuously perpetrating acts of violence, looting, and arbitrary arrests against civilian populations. The successful ambush represents a significant blow to military council operations in the area, where resistance forces have been working to protect local communities from military council aggression. The coordinated action demonstrates the growing capabilities of resistance forces in conducting tactical operations against military council targets while maintaining their ability to withdraw safely despite counter-attacks with heavy weapons.
