
Eight residents living at Ye Nway Dam in Kyauktaga Township, Bago Region, have died due to the powerful earthquake that struck on March 28, with only four bodies recovered so far, according to local residents. The earthquake caused extensive damage to homes of those living on the dam embankment, and residents were swept into the water due to the force of the seismic activity.
The deceased have been identified as Maung Ye Ni (aka) Mote Gyi, age 28, Ko Joe, age 25, and Ko Hmine Wai, age 20, from Myo Chaung village; Ko Soe Hlaing, age 47, Ko Chit Myo, age 22, and Ko Htet Myat, age 17, from Kyin village; Ko Aung Zaw Win, age 32, from Nya Tae village; and Ko Ye Ko Oo, age 30, from Danyin Kone village, as confirmed by local sources.
Rescue operations are currently ongoing to locate the remaining four bodies, with local residents and rescue teams working tirelessly in their search efforts. Additionally, authorities are conducting damage assessments due to the earthquake and are making arrangements to provide necessary assistance to those affected, according to local residents.
