The Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade 6 Duplaya District has reported that 8 civilians, including children, were injured and houses were destroyed due to heavy artillery shelling and drone attacks by the military council forces on villages in Kawkareik Township, Karen State. The attacks occurred on April 8th and 10th, causing significant civilian casualties and property damage in multiple villages.
On April 10th around 6 PM, military council troops stationed in Kawkareik deliberately attacked Maung Ma Village with armed drones, resulting in injuries to a 10-year-old girl, a 55-year-old man, and a 50-year-old woman. Additionally, on April 8th at approximately 10:27 PM, the military council forces launched attacks using 120mm and 122mm heavy artillery, targeting Aung Kaung village, Kyauk Thalite village, and Dauk Plan village.
In Aung Kaung village, artillery strikes caused injuries to multiple civilians including a 40-year-old man, a 26-year-old man, a 14-year-old girl, a 9-year-old boy, and a 6-year-old boy. Two houses were completely destroyed in the attack. According to a statement from the Duplaya District Public Relations and Information Department, despite the ongoing earthquake relief efforts in Myanmar, the military council forces continue to deliberately target innocent civilians with daily attacks. The statement emphasized that these attacks are being carried out purposefully against civilians even during a time when the country is dealing with the aftermath of a major earthquake and humanitarian crisis.
