A military column entering Nga Tharauk sub-township in Nyaung-U District, Mandalay Region, was attacked by revolutionary forces, resulting in the death of 74 soldiers and militia members, with the entire column being destroyed, according to a responsible official from the Bagan Bilu Force. The battle occurred on March 14 at 1:30 PM between Htauk Wa village and Ohyin village, where 69 soldiers were killed during the fighting, and an additional 5 wounded personnel later died at Nyaung-U Hospital from severe injuries.
The military column consisted of approximately 80 personnel and was completely destroyed during the battle, with only three soldiers managing to escape to the Nga Tharauk police station after forcibly stealing motorcycles from civilians. A large cache of weapons and ammunition was seized during the operation. The battle lasted over two hours and concluded after 3 PM. Although the military council attempted to provide air support, it arrived after the revolutionary forces had already reached secure positions following the battle’s conclusion, preventing any aerial bombardment.
The operation was led by Comrade Byat Wi (Bagan Bilu Force) and Comrade Nga Tae (Burmese Guerrilla Force), who serve as military commanders of the Nyaung-U Township People’s Defense Force. The joint operation included forces from the Bagan Bilu Force, Burmese Guerrilla Force, Thaung Tha Township PDF, Scorpion People’s Defense Force, Nyaung-U District Battalion 5, and Myingyan District Battalion 3. During the battle, one PDF member was killed and another was wounded. Additionally, officials have warned that there are reports of fraudulent groups using the Bagan Bilu Force’s name to solicit donations and extort money in the Nyaung-U District. The public has been requested to report any such incidents to the appropriate authorities.
