
According to an official from Myeik District Battalion 2, seven military council soldiers were killed when revolutionary forces launched a mine attack against a military column in Tanintharyi Township, Tanintharyi Region. The incident occurred around 4:30 AM on May 23, when resistance forces attacked the military council troops with mines near Samut Chaung village as they were advancing towards Laytaungyar and Samut Chaung villages. The attack resulted in the immediate death of seven military council soldiers.
Later at approximately 6:30 AM, revolutionary forces launched another attack against military council troops stationed in Samut Chaung village, resulting in numerous casualties among the military council forces, as confirmed by the official from Myeik District Battalion 2. Following these engagements, military reinforcements arrived around 9:30 AM, and clashes continued near Samut Chaung village until 4:30 PM. The coordinated attack was carried out jointly by Myeik District Battalion 2, Company 2, Myeik District Battalion 1, and the Tanintharyi Township People’s Defense Force.
Due to the ongoing military situation in Tanintharyi Township, revolutionary forces have urged local residents and travelers to exercise caution while moving through the area. The official from Myeik District Battalion 2 emphasized that the safety of civilians remains their top priority. The resistance forces continue to maintain their defensive positions while working to protect local communities from military council aggression in the region.
