
The Fire Services Department has officially announced that 6 monks have passed away and 55 monks have been rescued alive from the collapsed Tharthanah Beiman monastery in Chanayethazan Township, Mandalay Region. The historic monastery building collapsed due to a powerful earthquake that struck on March 29, and rescue operations are being conducted at full speed to save monks who were trapped inside the collapsed structure.
Search and rescue teams from the Fire Services Department, along with relevant organizations, are systematically conducting rescue operations, managing to rescue monks one by one from inside the collapsed building. As of now, 55 monks have been rescued alive, while tragically, the bodies of 6 deceased monks have also been recovered. Rescue operations are still ongoing, with teams working tirelessly to search for any remaining monks who might still be trapped inside the structure.
The collapsed Tharthanah Beiman monastery is a historic institution and served as a residence for many Buddhist monks.
