On August 11, around 2 PM, the military council conducted airstrikes using four fighter jets on a restaurant near Taungyin village in Sagaing Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in the death of 6 civilians and leaving many others injured, according to a representative from the Wetlet Informational Network who spoke to Yangon Modern News Agency. The devastating attack was carried out by two J-Fighter aircraft approaching from Tataoo and two from Meiktila, conducting approximately 20 bombing runs on the area.
The military’s aerial assault targeted a restaurant at a vehicle rest stop, causing extensive damage to nearby residential buildings and completely destroying four vehicles by fire. A monastery in the vicinity was also reportedly damaged in the attack. The incident occurred near Sintkine area at the border of Sagaing and Wetlet townships, along the eastern extension of Road No. 3. At the time of the attack, civilian travelers and cargo trucks were stranded in the area due to the presence of military columns nearby. Local sources emphasize that there was no active fighting in the area when the military conducted these airstrikes on civilian targets.
According to local sources, the initial death toll stands at 6 civilians, with more than 10 others suffering injuries. The number of casualties is expected to rise as more information becomes available. The attack appears to have deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure, striking the restaurant where travelers had stopped to rest. The military’s use of fighter jets to conduct multiple bombing runs on a civilian area, in the absence of any military engagement, has raised serious concerns among local residents and humanitarian observers. The incident represents another instance of the military council’s continued use of airpower against civilian targets in Sagaing Region, which has seen numerous similar attacks in recent months.
