Local residents reported that six civilians, including a novice monk, were killed when the terrorist military forces launched an artillery attack on Nga Lun Tin village in Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region. The attack occurred around 8:30 PM on May 15, when the military forces deliberately fired three artillery shells at the village despite there being no ongoing fighting in the area. The shells directly hit residential houses, causing seven homes to be destroyed by fire.
Among those killed in the artillery strike and subsequent fires were one novice monk, three men, and two women. Local sources confirmed that all victims suffered both artillery shrapnel wounds and burn injuries. Currently, the villagers have been forced to flee en masse from their homes, fearing additional artillery attacks from the military forces. The entire village population has been displaced due to these security concerns.
This incident represents a deliberate attack by the terrorist military council on innocent civilians, with local residents pointing out that artillery attacks on areas where there is no active combat constitute war crimes. The surviving villagers are currently seeking refuge in safer locations, dealing with the trauma of losing their homes and loved ones, while living in constant fear of further attacks. The destruction of homes and loss of lives has created a humanitarian crisis in the area, with displaced residents facing uncertain futures and immediate security concerns.
