According to an official statement from KNU-Mutraw District, 57 clashes occurred between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Brigade 5 and the military council forces in Papun District, Karen State, during the period from September 1 to 15. During these engagements, four military council soldiers were killed and eight were wounded. Additionally, KNLA and allied forces managed to destroy one military council facility during the fighting.
The military council not only attacked civilian villages with heavy artillery but also conducted aerial strikes. During the fifteen-day period in September, they carried out two drone attacks and one jet fighter bombing raid. These attacks resulted in the destruction of civilian homes and schools in the area. Some members of the KNLA and allied forces also suffered injuries during the confrontations. The military council’s continued use of airstrikes and artillery attacks against civilian areas has caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure and forced many local residents to flee their homes.
In the previous month of August, there were 93 clashes in Papun District, resulting in nine military council soldiers killed and four wounded. During this period, some KNLA Brigade 5 members also sustained injuries. The military council continues to commit war crimes against local civilians, with ongoing aerial attacks and artillery strikes causing civilian casualties. Local residents have been forced to seek shelter in displacement camps and are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. The military council’s aggressive actions have led to a deteriorating humanitarian situation in the region, with civilian communities bearing the brunt of the violence through destruction of their homes, schools, and basic infrastructure.
