The People’s Defense Force (PDF) and allied revolutionary groups conducted a month-long offensive against military forces attempting to enter Palaw Township’s Pa La town in Tanintharyi Region, resulting in 53 military casualties and the seizure of weapons and a drone. The conflict began on July 24 when resistance forces launched counter-offensives against the military’s attempts to enter Pa La town, leading to 9 major clashes and numerous smaller engagements. During these battles, the military suffered 53 fatalities and 48 injuries, while conducting 11 airstrikes and 26 naval artillery support missions.
The military had assembled forces of 300-400 personnel around Setawya and nearby villages, with additional reinforcements from Myeik city. The initial confrontation occurred when troops attempted to land at Zadi deep-water port in Pa La town. Military airstrikes and heavy artillery fire during the battles resulted in 18 civilian casualties and the passing of two Buddhist monks. Revolutionary forces successfully evacuated 329 civilians who were trapped within Pa La town during the fighting. The resistance forces lost three PDF members and one Karen National Defense Organization (KNDO) member, with one additional fighter wounded. They captured one pistol, two MA-1 rifles, one RPG-7 launcher with ammunition, and one drone from military forces.
The offensive was carried out through coordination between PDF Strategic Commands 34 and 35’s subordinate battalions, Tanintharyi Region Drone Battalion, regional and local defense forces, Pa La Force, KNDO Battalion 7, and KNLA Brigade 4 Special Forces. The Union Highway between Myeik and Palaw has been reopened, though Pa La town remains restricted due to ongoing security concerns. Resistance leaders have warned travelers to remain vigilant and stay informed about military movements, as clashes could resume at any time. The operation demonstrated successful coordination between multiple resistance groups in their continued opposition to military control in the region.
