A spokesperson from the Yae Nagar group has confirmed that at least five military personnel were severely injured following a drone attack on soldiers who were illegally collecting money from civilian travelers along the Monywa-Mandalay road in Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region. The incident occurred on August 12th, when revolutionary forces targeted military personnel who had set up a checkpoint between Chaung-U and Natgyikan, where they were forcibly extorting money from passing civilians.
The revolutionary forces conducted two separate drone strikes during the operation. While five military personnel were confirmed to have sustained severe injuries, the exact casualty figures could not be immediately verified. The resistance fighters successfully withdrew from the area without suffering any casualties after the attack. The operation was carried out through a coordinated effort between the Yae Nagar People’s Defense Force, Monywa District Battalion 8 Division 3, and the Myaung Battalion.
These attacks come as a response to the military council’s continued oppression of civilians, with soldiers regularly setting up checkpoints to extort money and intimidate local populations. The military’s practice of illegal toll collection and harassment of civilians has been a persistent issue in the region, prompting resistance forces to take action. Local residents, who have long endured various forms of military oppression, have expressed support for the resistance forces’ operations against these illegal military checkpoints. The incident represents another example of the ongoing conflict between pro-democracy forces and the military regime that continues to maintain its grip on power through force and intimidation tactics against civilians.
