A spokesperson from the Daung Nyi Naung Column has confirmed that five military council soldiers were killed during an attack on military forces stationed at a monastery and within Yantaung village in Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region’s Dawei District. The battle, which began around 11 AM on June 30, lasted until approximately 5 PM, with three additional military council soldiers reported wounded in the engagement.
The military council forces had initially arrived in Yantaung village on June 29 with approximately 60 troops, followed by an additional 50 troops from Nyaungzin and Yantaung areas the next day on June 30. After the battle, the military council transported their dead and wounded in two Vigo pickup trucks toward Yebyu town, while the remaining troops retreated to their Shwegu Mountain outpost. During the conflict, the military council forces had temporarily detained three civilians from Yantaung village as human shields, but later released them at Shwegu Mountain after confiscating their mobile phones.
The attack was carried out through a coordinated effort between the Daung Nyi Naung Column, the Daung Nyi Naung Drone Force, and KNLA Battalion 12’s Unit 1. The revolutionary forces successfully withdrew from the area without suffering any casualties. The operation demonstrated the growing capabilities of resistance forces in conducting coordinated attacks against military council positions in the region.
Currently, residents from Thinkun, Yantaung, and Kyapin villages have been forced to flee as internally displaced persons due to the fighting. Revolutionary forces have advised local civilians throughout Dawei District to remain vigilant and stay away from areas where military council troops are stationed, as fighting could break out anywhere in the region. They have also urged residents to make necessary preparations for potential displacement, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a safe distance from military installations and checkpoints to ensure civilian safety during ongoing operations.
