A spokesperson from the Duraka Column has confirmed that five military council soldiers were killed during attacks on two military checkpoints in Dawei and Yephyu Townships of Tanintharyi Region. The attacks took place on March 7th, targeting the Harley Curve checkpoint in Maung Mae Shaung village in Dawei Township and another checkpoint at the bridge entrance to Yephyu town. The coordinated operations were carried out by revolutionary forces in the region.
The first attack occurred around noon at the Harley Curve checkpoint in Maung Mae Shaung village, resulting in a 20-minute engagement that left one military council soldier dead. Later that evening, revolutionary forces launched a surprise attack on the checkpoint at the bridge entrance to Yephyu town. The ten-minute firefight resulted in the deaths of four additional military council soldiers. In both encounters, the revolutionary forces were able to withdraw successfully without sustaining any casualties. The attacks were jointly conducted by the Dawei Nationalities Liberation Army (DNLA)’s Duraka Column and the Yephyu People’s Defense Force (YPDF).
According to the Duraka Column official, while the operations were successful in terms of inflicting casualties on the military council forces, they were unable to capture any weapons or ammunition during the engagements. The revolutionary forces have issued warnings to local civilians to exercise extreme caution in their daily activities, as military operations across the country have intensified. They have also extended an invitation to military council soldiers and police personnel who wish to stand for justice, encouraging them to defect and join the people’s side as soon as possible. The successful operations demonstrate the growing capabilities of resistance forces in the Tanintharyi Region and their continued commitment to opposing the military council’s control over the area.
