A spokesperson from the Duraka Column has confirmed that five military council soldiers were killed during attacks on two military checkpoints in Dawei and Yephyu Townships of Tanintharyi Region. The attacks occurred on March 7th, targeting the Harley Curve checkpoint in Maung Mae Shaung village in Dawei Township and another checkpoint at the bridge entrance to Yephyu town. The coordinated operations were carried out by revolutionary forces in the region.
The first attack took place around noon at the Harley Curve checkpoint in Maung Mae Shaung village, Dawei Township. The engagement lasted approximately 20 minutes, resulting in the death of one military council soldier. Later that day, at around 4 PM, revolutionary forces launched a surprise attack on the checkpoint at the bridge entrance to Yephyu town. Although this second engagement lasted only about 10 minutes, it resulted in the deaths of four additional military council soldiers. In both encounters, the revolutionary forces were able to withdraw successfully without sustaining any casualties.
The operations were jointly conducted by the Dawei Nationalities Liberation Army (DNLA)’s Duraka Column and the Yephyu People’s Defense Force (YPPDF). According to the Duraka Column representative, while the attacks were successful in terms of casualties inflicted on the military council forces, they were unable to capture any weapons or ammunition during the engagements. Given the current escalation of military operations across the country, the revolutionary forces have advised local civilians to exercise extreme caution in their daily movements. They have also extended an invitation to military council soldiers and police personnel who wish to stand for justice to defect and join the people’s side as soon as possible.
