The terrorist military forces conducted an aerial attack on Lethlut Taung village in Depayin Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in the death of 5 civilians including 13-year-old Ma Gyet Oo, as confirmed by local administration officials. The airstrike occurred at approximately 10:41 AM on April 23, just days after the military council’s announcement of a ceasefire.
The victims of the airstrike were identified as Daw Lon, 13-year-old Ma Gyet Oo, 45-year-old Ko San Zaw, 26-year-old Aung Kyaw Kyaw, and 80-year-old Daw Saung. Additionally, at least seven other villagers were reported injured in the attack, according to local sources. The military council has intensified its air operations following the recent earthquake, particularly targeting religious buildings and civilian residential areas. Local administration officials noted that the military council has been deliberately targeting innocent civilians, with a notable increase in attacks on religious sites such as temples and monasteries, as well as civilian settlements.
The military council had previously announced a first round of ceasefire from April 2 to April 22, followed by a second announcement of ceasefire from April 23 to April 30. However, attacks have continued despite these declarations. During the first ceasefire period alone, more than 160 civilians were killed due to military airstrikes and violent attacks, according to documented records. Local administrative authorities have emphasized the urgent need for effective international intervention to address these deliberate attacks on civilian populations, which they characterize as clear war crimes and crimes against humanity. The continued military operations, particularly targeting civilian areas during declared ceasefire periods, demonstrate the military council’s disregard for civilian lives and international humanitarian law.
