Four civilians, including three elderly men and a young man in his twenties, were killed instantly when military forces conducted an aerial attack on Thayet Kine village in Salingyi Township, Sagaing Region, according to local residents. The incident occurred around 9 AM on June 28, when military forces launched an unprovoked attack using two paramotors to drop bombs on the village. The aerial assault resulted in the deaths of U Kyaw Win, aged 50, U Phoe Thein, around 60 years old, U Htein Aung, aged 63, and Maung Thet Tu, aged 20, all residents of Thayet Kine village. The remaining villagers were forced to flee to safety following the attack.
The attack was carried out by two paramotors from the Northwest Military Command, deliberately targeting Thayet Kine village. Additionally, a flotilla of 14 military vessels, including warships, has been moving along the Chindwin River, with air support conducting systematic bombing raids on villages in the area. According to local sources, the military forces have been targeting civilian settlements without any ongoing battles with People’s Defense Forces in the region. The military’s operations appear to be deliberately focused on civilian areas rather than zones of active conflict.
The Sagaing Region has been experiencing frequent civilian casualties and injuries due to military airstrikes and ground offensives, forcing local residents to abandon their homes and seek refuge elsewhere. The military continues to carry out violent attacks against civilians under the pretext of suppressing anti-regime activities in the region. Local residents point out that the deliberate targeting of areas where there is no active fighting has led to an increase in civilian casualties. The military’s strategy of attacking peaceful villages has created a humanitarian crisis in the region, with innocent civilians bearing the brunt of the violence. The recent attack on Thayet Kine village represents another instance of the military’s ongoing campaign of violence against civilian populations in the Sagaing Region.
