Four civilians were killed in an airstrike conducted by the terrorist military council in Kyaukme city, Northern Shan State, and their funeral was held on June 25. The military council’s air force targeted Wards 3 and 7 of Kyaukme city on June 24, resulting in the deaths of 60-year-old Daw Hla Yi from Market Ward Zone 4, 57-year-old Daw Hla Thein from Market Ward Zone 6, 56-year-old Daw Hla Hla Htwe and 21-year-old Ko Thiha Naing (aka) Waw Waw from Ward 7, according to local residents.
The funeral services for the deceased were held at Ayechantha Cemetery at 2 PM today, with assistance from various local organizations including Kyaukme Funeral Service Association, 5 Stars Group, Aung Thamaw Social Welfare Association, and Nam Khun Shan Philanthropic Association (Kyaukme Branch). The airstrikes caused injuries to five people in Ward 3, including two children, two men, and one woman, while destroying 16 houses and one school. In Ward 7, nine people were injured (five men and four women), with seven houses and one nunnery school destroyed. Additionally, 22 other houses sustained minor damage from bomb fragments.
According to a statement from the TNLA (Ta’ang National Liberation Army), the terrorist military council deliberately targeted civilian areas without any ongoing battles in the vicinity. The statement warned local residents to remain vigilant against military attacks and follow proper air raid protection procedures. Local residents pointed out that such deliberate targeting of civilians provides further evidence of the military council’s war crimes. The military council’s actions continue to demonstrate their disregard for civilian lives and international humanitarian law, as they persist in carrying out airstrikes on residential areas without military targets.
