After the terrorist military council troops arrived at Shauk Kyan village, approximately 10 miles from Naung Cho town in northern Shan State, they launched an artillery attack on residential areas of the town, resulting in injuries to 4 civilians and forcing the entire population to flee to safety. Starting from the evening of June 4, military council troops reached Shauk Kyan village near Naung Cho town and began shelling the town’s residential areas with 12 howitzer artillery rounds around 8 PM, according to local residents.
The military council’s artillery strikes hit several locations in Naung Cho town, including the truck terminal, the area around Kanbawza school, near the former Nyi Nyi Naing workshop by the town’s restaurant, and near Shwe War Yeik. The artillery attack wounded two women and two men in the market ward area. Other artillery shells landed and exploded in various other parts of the town, according to locals.
The terrorist military council is deliberately targeting civilian residential areas, and due to the artillery attacks, town residents have been forced to flee to safety fearing for their lives. Currently, most of the population of Naung Cho town has had to abandon their homes, with some fleeing into the forests while others have taken shelter with relatives. The indiscriminate shelling of civilian areas has created a humanitarian crisis as families scramble to find safe locations away from the military’s attacks.
