The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has confirmed that an earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck near Sagaing city. The earthquake occurred at 1:41 AM Myanmar Standard Time on April 1st, with its epicenter located 4 kilometers northwest of Sagaing city. This seismic event is the latest in a series of earthquakes that have affected the region over the past week.
According to local residents, earthquake tremors have been occurring nightly for the past four days. A resident from Mandalay reported that the intensity of the earthquakes has forced people to sleep outside their homes in mosquito nets, with tremors varying in intensity from mild to severe each night. The continuous seismic activity has created significant concern among the local population, who are experiencing both strong and moderate tremors on a regular basis.
The recent seismic activity follows a major earthquake that struck on March 28th at 12:52 PM, which caused extensive damage across central Myanmar, including in Mandalay, Naypyidaw, and Sagaing regions, resulting in thousands of reported casualties. Due to fears of aftershocks, many residents in Mandalay have abandoned their homes and are currently living in temporary shelters and mosquito nets along the streets. Local communities are expressing serious concerns about the possibility of additional strong earthquakes and are preparing for emergency situations. The continuous seismic activity has disrupted normal life in the affected areas, with residents taking precautionary measures to ensure their safety during this period of geological instability.
