The military council’s airstrike on Kachin Independence Army (KIA) Brigade 8 territory in Moegaung District, Kachin State, has resulted in the death of 38 military trainees and injured 28 others, according to KIA military sources. The attack was carried out on March 31 evening using two fighter jets, occurring at a time when the entire country is suffering from earthquake damage. The military council continues its offensive operations despite the ongoing natural disaster affecting civilians across Myanmar.
Additionally, the military council is conducting daily airstrikes in Banmaw, Waingmaw, and Inndaw regions. Drone attacks are being carried out in KIA Brigade 9 territory. On April 1, the military conducted an airstrike on Inndaw town despite there being no active fighting in the area. Villages in the Waingmaw area are also being targeted with drone strikes, while ground offensive operations continue. The military council has been launching continuous attacks using both air assets and ground forces, demonstrating an ongoing pattern of military aggression in the region.
In related developments, combined forces of the KIA and PDF successfully attacked military council troops and their allied forces stationed in Lawah village along the Hpakant-Tanai road on March 31, forcing them to retreat toward Kamaine. Military sources have pointed out that while the country is dealing with earthquake relief efforts, the military council has failed to properly assist affected civilians and instead continues to commit war crimes through airstrikes and attacks on civilian populations. The ongoing military operations in Kachin State represent a continuation of the military council’s aggressive campaign against both armed resistance forces and civilian populations, even during times of natural disaster when humanitarian assistance should be the priority.
