A spokesperson from the Yae Nagar force has confirmed that 15 military council soldiers were killed and 17 others were seriously injured during a clash with People’s Defense Forces in Monywa Township, Sagaing Region. The battle took place near Shwegu Ni Pagoda in the vicinity of Kyaukka village on August 20 at approximately 6:30 PM when resistance forces intercepted a military column of about 60 troops that had entered the area.
The engagement occurred as part of a coordinated operation planned by the Monywa District Command. The resistance forces that participated in the attack included various PDF battalions from Monywa Township, Monywa Township People’s Defense Force, Monywa Sub-township (2) and (3) People’s Defense Forces, Ayartaw Township Sub-township (11) People’s Defense Force, Monywa District PDF combat unit known as Danger Force, and the Yae Nagar People’s Defense Force. The combined resistance forces successfully carried out the operation without suffering any casualties and were able to withdraw safely after the engagement, which lasted approximately one hour until 7:30 PM.
Additionally, earlier battles had taken place in the same general area on August 8 and 10 near Shwegu Ni Pagoda, the football field, and Shwegu Phyu Pagoda along Kyaukka Road in Monywa. During these previous engagements, resistance forces reported that 20 military council troops were killed and one was captured alive. These successive operations demonstrate the ongoing resistance activities in the Monywa area, where local defense forces have been actively opposing the military council’s presence and operations in the region.
