Three civilians were killed and five houses were destroyed when the military council forces conducted an aerial bombardment on two villages located at the border of Thone Pyin and Kyaukkyi Townships in Bago Region. According to local residents, the military conducted the airstrike around 3 PM on March 6, targeting Kyaukkyi Pauk village and Makyantaw village without any ongoing battles in the area. The attack involved approximately six bombs dropped from aircraft, accompanied by machine gun fire from the air.
The casualties from the airstrike included Daw Htwe, age 63, from Kyaukkyi Pauk village, and U Aung Myint Aye, age 55, and Daw Khine Oo, age 53, from Makyantaw village. Additionally, three other civilians from Makyantaw village sustained injuries in the attack. The targeted area is located near the Kyaukkyi Pauk bridge between Military Commands 2 and 3, in a civilian residential area. Local sources confirmed that there were no active conflicts in the area when the military conducted the aerial assault.
According to a local resident’s account, the military council deliberately targeted these civilian areas without any military engagement taking place at the time. The airstrikes caused houses to burn down and forced residents to flee in terror. The injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment. Local residents have reported that civilian casualties continue to mount due to the military council’s ongoing aerial attacks on residential areas. The attack demonstrates the military’s continued use of airpower against civilian populations, resulting in loss of life and destruction of civilian property in areas where no active fighting was taking place at the time of the bombardment.
