Despite the military council’s announcement of a ceasefire throughout June, airstrikes were conducted in Sagaing and Sintgaung townships in Mandalay Region, resulting in three civilians being injured, with one in critical condition, according to local residents. The attacks occurred at multiple locations, including schools and civilian areas, demonstrating continued military operations despite the declared ceasefire.
On June 1, in the morning, the military conducted an airstrike on a school in the Four Mile Kantha area of Sagaing Township, dropping a 500-pound bomb from a fighter jet. The attack resulted in damage to two school buildings, though fortunately no casualties were reported in this incident. Later that afternoon, the military’s air force from Tadaoo Air Base conducted another airstrike on Nwayrun village in Sintgaung Township, destroying two buildings in the process.
In a similar attack, the Lucky 7 Hotel in Natdaung village, Sintgaung Township, was targeted by military aircraft, resulting in injuries to three women, with one sustaining severe injuries that have left her in critical condition. A representative from the Pyin Oo Lwin District People’s Defense Force confirmed these incidents and their impact on civilian populations.
The military council had announced its fourth ceasefire on May 31, declaring it would be in effect from June 1 to June 30. However, these aerial attacks demonstrate continued military operations despite the ceasefire declaration. In response to these ongoing threats, the Pyin Oo Lwin District People’s Defense Force has advised local residents to construct bomb shelters and remain in secure locations away from potential military targets. The continued attacks highlight the disconnect between the military council’s public statements and their actions on the ground, with civilian populations bearing the brunt of ongoing military operations.
