A fierce battle between military council forces and People’s Defense Forces near Sanoshe village in Yedashe Township, Magway Region, resulted in the deaths of 27 military council troops, including one officer, while one PDF member was killed in action, according to Ko Aung Maung, commander of Southern YSO PDF. The conflict began around 5 AM on May 9, when military council troops from Infantry Battalions 256, 257, and 258 based in Yedashe, accompanied by 5 civilian hostages, advanced toward Sanoshe village with approximately 100 personnel from Sinchaunpyu village.
At 7:20 AM, the joint People’s Defense Forces launched an interceptive attack north of Sanoshe village, leading to a battle that lasted approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. During the engagement, nearly 30 military council troops were wounded, and their surveillance drone was shot down. PDF member La Pyae from Southern YSO PDF was killed in action, while about 10 other resistance fighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries. After the battle, the military council transported their dead and wounded using five armored vehicles from Pakokku.
In retaliation for their losses during the battle where People’s Defense Forces had the upper hand, the military council conducted an aerial bombing raid on the uninvolved Setaw village using two aircraft, resulting in the death of one civilian and destruction of villagers’ homes. The battle involved a coalition of resistance forces including Southern Local Alliance, Southern YSO PDF, Yesagyo Revolution Group (YRG), Daung Nyi Naung, People’s Force PDF, King Cobra, Daung Sit Thee, and BNRA forces. After the battle, the remaining military council forces of about 30 troops retreated to Kyaukhlaykar Gate, while approximately 60 troops were reported missing, according to responsible officials.
