
The Northwestern Command Headquarters in Monywa, Sagaing Region, was attacked with shock-strike rockets by revolutionary forces, resulting in the death of 22 military personnel including three officers. The attack also caused fires and explosions at the military’s fuel storage, camp office, and ration warehouse, according to a spokesperson from the Chindwin Rocket Brothers (CRB) forces.
The attack occurred on June 27 at approximately 5:30 PM when revolutionary forces launched 10 shock-strike rockets at the Northwestern Command Headquarters based in Monywa Township. During the attack, two officers from the command headquarters, four officers’ wives, and 12 soldiers were killed instantly. Additionally, four officers, 15 soldiers, and two children of majors who were severely injured were transported to the 300-bed military hospital around 6 PM the same day.
On June 28, among those who had sustained severe injuries, one officer, one major’s child, and two soldiers succumbed to their injuries. The funeral services for the deceased were held on June 29 at the Northwestern Command military cemetery and Thayagone cemetery in Alon township. During the attack, the fuel storage facility within the military headquarters exploded, destroying two fuel tanks, while fires consumed the camp office and ration warehouses. The battalion barracks were also damaged, and two private vehicles parked at the officers’ quarters were destroyed by fire.
The attack was led by the Chindwin Rocket Brothers group in collaboration with allied forces including Choi Moi Moi (Kani), Anonymous Heroes, and Chindwin Brothers. The operation was successfully carried out with the support of Upper Burma Air Defense Force and Civil groups, who provided crucial air defense and military intelligence. The success of this coordinated attack demonstrates the growing capabilities of resistance forces in their campaign against military targets.
