
Due to the ongoing offensive by revolutionary forces led by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) against the military council’s Maw Phar Thu camp in KNU Brigade 7 territory of Myawaddy Township, Karen State, 215 local residents have fled to Thailand. The fighting began on April 18, with revolutionary forces launching intense attacks on the military council’s camp.
Maw Phar Thu village is located in Kukkoe village tract of Myawaddy Township, approximately 2 kilometers from the Thai-Myanmar border. Among the displaced civilians are 39 men, 72 women, 53 boys, and 51 girls. Thai military and humanitarian organizations have relocated the displaced people from Mokkala Gate to Huai Pla Kong village, where they are receiving necessary assistance.
The fighting continues to be intense, with revolutionary forces reportedly maintaining the upper hand, according to border sources. The Thai military has tightened security along the border area and is paying special attention to the safety of the displaced civilians. Local residents are likely to remain temporarily sheltered in Thailand until the fighting subsides. The Thai authorities are providing protection and humanitarian assistance to the displaced people, who fled their homes due to the military council’s operations in their area.
