Military forces entered Taungbo village in Salin Township, Magway Region, leading to clashes with local People’s Defense Forces (PDF) and resulting in the destruction of 21 civilian homes by arson. On the evening of April 6, a military column of over 70 troops from Light Infantry Division 101 based in Pakokku advanced toward Taungbo village through Naywatamay and Natsin villages.
The military column was first encountered and engaged by the Daung Sit Aung People’s Defense Force, followed by joint resistance from the Burma Army and allied forces. During the fighting, military council troops entered the village firing heavy weapons and small arms indiscriminately, systematically burning down houses within the village, according to local residents. The military’s random firing resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to two men from Taungbo village, while 21 homes were destroyed by fire.
Due to the military’s incursion, residents from Taungbo village, Satwa village, and Nyaungkone village have been forced to flee to IDP camps for their safety. Currently, the military has established a position in Naywatamay village, according to local sources. The incident represents another instance of the military council’s ongoing campaign of violence and destruction against civilian populations, forcing residents to abandon their homes and seek refuge elsewhere while destroying civilian infrastructure.
