Revolutionary sources have confirmed that twenty students and two teachers who were killed in a military airstrike on a school in Ohteinpin village, Depayin Township, Sagaing Region, have been buried. The airstrike, which occurred at approximately 9:35 AM on May 12, also resulted in injuries to more than fifty students. The incident has been documented as one of the most severe attacks on civilians, particularly targeting an educational institution.
According to local sources, the attack took place during regular school hours when students were attending their classes. They confirmed that there were no armed organizations stationed within or near the school compound, nor were there any ongoing conflicts in the surrounding area at the time of the attack. Revolutionary sources emphasized that the military deliberately targeted innocent students and teachers, demonstrating a clear intention to harm civilians. The school had never been used for any military purposes and had always functioned solely as an educational institution.
In response to this incident, the People’s Defense Force’s Battalion 12 of Shwebo District issued a statement condemning the military council’s inhumane actions. They declared that this attack would be documented as an act of genocide and a war crime, and they would pursue effective action against the perpetrators. The statement also emphasized their commitment to seeking justice for the affected children and declared that anyone who committed, assisted, or attempted to distort these war crimes would be definitively marked as enemies. The statement underscored their determination to continue fighting for justice through various means until those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
