
A two-year-old child was killed and a 67-year-old man was injured when the military council forces fired artillery shells at Phyonpyu village in Yesagyo Township, Magway Region. The incident occurred around 12 noon on August 4, when military council troops stationed at the municipal park in Yesagyo town indiscriminately fired howitzer artillery shells at villages within Yesagyo Township.
The artillery strikes by military council forces resulted in five shells landing and exploding in different locations: two shells on the island between the two separated villages of Myelaingkyun, one shell in the northeast of southern Myelaingkyun village, and two shells north of the football field south of Phyonpyu village. As a result of these artillery explosions, two-year-old Maung Pauk Si from Phyonpyu village was killed instantly when shrapnel struck his head.
Additionally, U Win Kyaw, age 67, sustained injuries to his leg and hip from artillery shell fragments. Local residents report that the military council forces frequently shell villages within Yesagyo Township, causing residents to live in constant fear and anxiety. Local sources point out that the death of an innocent child once again demonstrates the brutality of the military council forces. The incident has further heightened concerns among villagers about their safety and security in the area, as the military council continues its campaign of violence against civilian populations.
