An explosion at an explosives warehouse in a jade mining site near Swot Bum village, close to Maw Si Za in Hpakant Township, Kachin State, has resulted in the death of two workers and injuries to approximately 10 others, according to local residents. The incident occurred at 1:15 PM on June 3rd, with two possible causes being suggested for the warehouse explosion and subsequent fire. Local sources indicate that the explosion may have been caused either by a military council kamikaze drone attack or by artillery fire from the military position at Tama Kun.
A KIA news source confirmed the casualties while stating that the exact details of the incident are still under investigation. The source verified that the victims were workers from the jade mining company. Additionally, it was reported that the military council had previously conducted destructive operations in the area, specifically targeting vehicles and buildings belonging to Company 111 in the Maw Si Za mining area of Lonkhin village tract. These attacks were carried out on the morning of June 3rd at 8:45 AM and on May 31st.
According to local residents, these military council attacks continue to severely impact regional business operations and result in civilian casualties. While the jade mining industry serves as the primary source of livelihood for local residents, operations have been suspended due to security concerns, and workers face life-threatening conditions. The local community reports that they are struggling with both economic hardship and safety risks due to the ongoing military actions in the region.
