On May 6, following the military council’s morning announcement of a ceasefire, an airstrike was conducted on Man Lay village in Nyaung Hla Gyi Township, Mandalay Region, resulting in the death of two civilians, according to a spokesperson from the People’s Defense Force of Nyaung Hla Gyi Township. The aerial attack occurred around 2 PM, causing not only fatalities but also leaving five other civilians injured. The People’s Defense Force officials are currently investigating the extent of damage caused to the village infrastructure and properties.
Despite the military council declaring its third ceasefire extension until May 31, they continue to carry out aerial attacks on civilians across the country. According to the Ministry of Human Rights of the National Unity Government (NUG), during the declared ceasefire period, the military council’s airstrikes have resulted in 276 civilian deaths and 456 injuries. These ceasefire announcements have proven to be merely deceptive tactics by the military council, as they continue their violent campaign against innocent civilians, clearly demonstrating the disconnect between their public statements and actual military operations on the ground.
