SAGAING DIVISION – 185 young people were abducted in Kalay Township under the junta council’s conscription act and they are being sent to the front lines in war zones, according to an official from Kalay Public Strike Steering Committee.
The junta council and affiliates announced a cyber law that violates many principles of democracy on January 1, 2025. Under that law, junta forces inspect the mobile phones of civilians out in the streets in the regions controlled by the junta council and abduct and detain multiple young people using flimsy accusations.
In Kalay, young people were abducted from not just residential zones but even religious premises and it is said that 45 young people were abducted and sent to the front lines in Chin State during the sixth batch of conscription while 50 young people were abducted and sent to the front lines in Chin State and Rakhine State during the seventh batch.
Similarly, 30 young people were abducted during the eight batch then sent to Sagaing and Taunggyi (Ba Htoo Special Military Zone) and it is reported that 90 young people were abducted during January and February for the upcoming ninth batch. Kalay Public Strike Steering Committee stated that these data are collected to ensure that it reflects the actual numbers on the ground as closely as possible but the actual numbers could still be higher.
As such, the committee urged the young people in Kalay to avoid going out at night, avoid unnecessary social events and trips, closely observe the movement of junta forces and flee in advance if necessary, and to avoid the stations of junta troops and to delete what should be deleted including VPN apps when going out.
Kalay Public Strike Steering Committee stated that as the regime of the terrorist junta council is nearing its end, they are preparing a sham election as a political exit while simultaneously committing war crimes daily across the country to seek an exit via warfare.
Thus, the committee urged the people of Kalay to not provide the junta council the exits they desire and to resist the oppressions of the junta council in any form in order to completely eradicate military dictatorship.
