A local resident reported to Yangon Modern News that an 18-year-old student was killed when military council troops stationed at the Wang Pao Company fired heavy weapons at Yaykyunpin village in Yenangyaing Township, Sagaing Region. The incident occurred around 10 PM on May 14, when military council troops fired three 120mm artillery shells into the village. The artillery shells exploded within the village, resulting in the immediate death of Ma Thae, a Grade-12 student, and injuries to three other civilians.
According to a local resident, the military council deliberately targets civilians with heavy weapons to disrupt revolutionary activities. The source emphasized that the military council has consistently engaged in such violence against innocent civilians to maintain their power. The incident was particularly notable as it involved direct intelligence from military council troops providing security for the Chinese company. The local resident suggested that workers at Chinese companies should stand with the public and leave their workplaces, noting that if workers were to exit these facilities, it would significantly impact both Chinese operations and the military council, resulting in substantial losses for both parties.
Currently, residents of Yaykyunpin village are fleeing to safer locations, fearing additional artillery attacks from military council forces. The situation continues to deteriorate as innocent civilians lose their lives and are forced to abandon their homes and properties due to the military council’s brutal attacks. The ongoing violence has created a humanitarian crisis in the region, with residents living in constant fear of further military aggression and being unable to return to their normal lives. The military council’s indiscriminate use of heavy weapons against civilian areas represents a continuing pattern of violence against the Myanmar people.
