According to CDM Captain Lin Htet Aung, citing military sources in Naypyidaw, a fight broke out among officers and soldiers from the military parade contingent on the evening of March 26, resulting in injuries to 18 personnel including a Lieutenant Colonel. The incident occurred around 10 PM at Accommodation No. 3 in Naypyidaw, where troops were staying ahead of the military parade. The conflict started between soldiers from the Kyansittha column housed in buildings 3 and 4.
Earlier that evening, the military leadership had hosted a dinner party and provided food and drinks to the soldiers who were to participate in the parade. The altercation reportedly began after some soldiers had been drinking alcohol. Each accommodation building houses hundreds of soldiers, and the fight involved hundreds of troops from two different buildings. The situation escalated when the opposing groups began throwing bricks and using sticks as weapons against each other.
In the ensuing chaos, approximately 15 soldiers suffered head injuries and bleeding wounds, though these were not considered life-threatening. However, three soldiers sustained critical injuries that were deemed life-threatening. Among the total 18 injured was a Lieutenant Colonel serving as a column commander, who suffered swelling injuries from being beaten. The fight became so severe that the Military Training Unit 2 attempted to intervene but failed to control the situation. Eventually, riot control forces had to be called in, using tear gas to disperse the crowd. Following the incident, the parade commander, a Brigadier General, arrived at the scene to investigate and reportedly berated those involved.
