According to a representative from the People’s Democratic Army (PDA), 18 military council soldiers were killed in a mine attack on troops departing from Taung Zin Police Station in Nyaung-U Township, Mandalay Region. The incident occurred around 5:20 AM on August 11, when a military column of approximately 200 personnel from Taung Zin Police Station was attacked with barrel mines and padaytha mines between Chaung Wa and Ywar Thit Taung villages.
Following the attack, military council forces reinforced their presence with 4 armored vehicles from Taung Zin Police Station and 6 military trucks from Nyaung-U. Currently, one military group has established a base in Ywar Thit Taung village, while another has occupied Chaung Shay village. During the military council’s indiscriminate firing, a woman in her 60s sustained gunshot wounds. The PDA representative indicated that while there might be additional casualties on the military council’s side, these numbers are yet to be confirmed.
As a result of the fighting, thousands of civilians from Ywar Thit Taung village and surrounding areas have been forced to flee to safer locations. Local residents report ongoing concerns about the military council troops’ random firing, which continues to threaten civilian safety in the area. The military presence and operations have created a climate of fear and uncertainty among the local population, who remain displaced from their homes due to the ongoing conflict.
