
In the Sagaing Region under the control of the National Unity Government (NUG), the recent earthquake has resulted in 18 deaths and more than 300 injuries, according to an announcement from the NUG’s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management. These figures represent preliminary data, with authorities continuing to collect additional information about the impact of the disaster.
On a nationwide scale, the earthquake has claimed 469 lives, with 223 cases still under investigation, and 1,822 people have been confirmed injured. Infrastructure damage includes more than 30 roads, 2,970 residential buildings, 7 bridges, 5 dams and embankments, 95 pagodas, and over 50 mosques. The NUG’s statement details the extensive damage to both civilian infrastructure and religious buildings across the affected areas.
The National Unity Government has intensified its rescue and relief operations in response to the earthquake damage, providing emergency supplies, medical assistance, food aid, and temporary shelter to affected populations. Special attention is being given to the security and healthcare needs of local residents. The NUG has also announced systematic rehabilitation plans for those affected by the natural disaster, emphasizing their commitment to supporting the recovery of affected communities. The government continues to assess the situation and coordinate relief efforts while maintaining detailed records of casualties and damage to infrastructure.
