The National Unity Government’s Ministry of Labor and Myanmar Migrant Workers Affairs Committee (MHAC) are working together to secure compensation for 170 Myanmar workers whose labor rights have been violated at a factory in Ayutthaya Province, Thailand. The factory has been reported to commit various violations against Myanmar workers, including unauthorized deductions from wages for transportation costs, requiring workers to pay their own medical expenses despite regular social security contributions, and unfairly dismissing senior workers without cause.
Additionally, the factory has been charging excessive fees for work permit renewals, forcing workers to work on holidays without paying double wages as required by labor laws, and making unauthorized wage deductions even when workers present valid medical certificates for sick leave. Regarding this matter, a case will be filed at the Thai government’s worker protection office (Sawadikan) next Monday, where negotiations will be conducted with the employer. If negotiations fail, legal action will be pursued through the courts.
To address these labor rights violations, members of the Myanmar Migrant Workers Affairs Committee alliance and the Director of the National Unity Government’s Ministry of Labor, U Naing Htun Oo, have begun meeting with the workers to prepare for filing complaints at the relevant local labor protection office. They have committed to continuing their support until the workers receive their full labor rights and entitlements. The organizations are working to ensure that all affected workers receive proper compensation and their rights are fully restored under Thai labor laws.
