Local residents reported that 17 houses were burned down in Nyaungpin village, Myitchi town, Pakokku Township, Magway Region, after the terrorist military fired artillery without any ongoing battle. The incident occurred around 7:30 PM on April 5, 2024, when military forces from Aungtha Pyu Saw Htee village launched an unprovoked artillery attack on Nyaungpin village in Myitchi town.
Although fortunately no civilians were injured in the artillery attack, 17 houses were completely destroyed by fire. A local resident stated that the military and Pyu Saw Htee members from Aungtha village conducted the artillery strikes that resulted in the destruction of residential homes. This attack demonstrates the military’s continued aggression against civilian targets.
Despite the military council’s announcement of a ceasefire from April 2 to April 22, they continue to conduct airstrikes and artillery attacks across Myanmar. This incident of targeting civilian homes during a declared ceasefire period illustrates how the military council disregards its own commitments and continues to perpetrate violence against civilians. The ongoing attacks on residential areas reveal the military’s persistent pattern of terrorizing civilian populations, even during periods when they have publicly committed to cease hostilities.
