
According to local residents and People’s Defense Forces, a total of 16 innocent civilians, including one revolutionary fighter, 11 women, and 2 children, were killed in an airstrike conducted by the military council’s forces in Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region. The aerial attack, which occurred on July 17, targeted villages in the eastern part of Wetlet Township using a Y-12 aircraft. Among the deceased were children as young as 10 years old and elderly persons up to 70 years of age.
The military council’s airstrike resulted in 6 civilian deaths and 19 injuries in Shargwe village, while 9 people were killed and 23 were injured in Ngabat Chaung village. The casualties from Shargwe village included U Myint Naing (55 years old), Ko Aung Ko (25 years old), Daw Khin Hnin Swe (54 years old), Ma Hnin Thu Wei (10 years old), driver U Myint Naing, and one unidentified civilian. In Ngabat Chaung village, the deceased were identified as Daw Mya Nyunt (70 years old), Ma Wai Thi, Ma Khaing, Daw U, U Kular Gyi, U Chit Htay, Maung Chit Myo Oo, Maung Nay Win Htun, and U Win Myint.
Additionally, in Yay Lay Maw village, a People’s Defense Force member known as Comrade Doe Lay was killed, and 5 civilians were injured. According to local sources, the military council deliberately targeted civilian areas due to their concerns about potential attacks on their naval vessels passing through the region. The military council’s forces continue to view civilians as enemies and carry out attacks against their own people, despite being sustained by the very citizens they target.
