
A military column that entered Yenangyaung Township in Magway Region was attacked by People’s Defense Forces, resulting in 15 military casualties and numerous injuries, according to a spokesperson from the Yenangyaung Township People’s Defense Force. The military column, comprising approximately 150 personnel from Magway-based Infantry Division 88, Light Infantry Battalion 77, Light Infantry Battalion 13, and Pyu Saw Htee militia members from Sinpin village in Kyaukpadaung Township, entered through Tharkukan village and Phoe Ko Road in Yenangyaung Township on May 27.
The fighting between the military column and People’s Defense Forces continued for 20 days until June 16. During the clashes, 15 military personnel were confirmed dead with many others wounded. The military column also inflicted civilian casualties, executing two innocent civilians – one from Lunpinshae village and another from Intaw village in Yenangyaung Township. Additionally, they burned down 15 civilian homes in Kantha (New Village) and Lunpinshae villages. The military forces eventually retreated through Konhtaing-Phaungkwe Road on June 16.
The resistance operation was jointly carried out by the People’s Defense Force-Yenangyaung (YNG-PDF), Tamar Myay Special Column, Yenanthar Column, and Intaw District PDF. These clashes represent part of the ongoing people’s revolution against the military dictatorship, with People’s Defense Forces continuing their fight to protect local civilians’ lives and property. The coordinated resistance efforts demonstrate the growing strength of local defense forces in their struggle against military oppression in the region, as they work to defend their communities from military violence and destruction.
