
The Karen National Union (KNU) Central has officially reported that 139 clashes occurred between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Brigade 5 and the military council forces in Papun District, Karen State, during April. During these conflicts, 39 military personnel, including two majors, were killed, while two civilians lost their lives due to the military’s artillery and airstrikes.
During the period from April 1 to April 30, the military suffered casualties including two majors and one sergeant, among the total 39 fatalities. Additionally, 55 military personnel, including one lance corporal, were injured in the fighting. Nine military installations were also confirmed destroyed. The military council forces conducted seven artillery attacks on civilian villages and launched 14 aerial bombing raids using fighter jets.
The military council’s artillery and aerial attacks resulted in the deaths of two innocent civilians and left seven others injured. Furthermore, local residents’ homes, agricultural lands, and livelihood-related infrastructure suffered extensive damage. According to the KNU Central’s statement, local civilians have been forced to flee their homes in fear, seeking refuge in safer locations due to the military council’s attacks. The ongoing military operations have caused significant displacement and humanitarian concerns in the region, with civilians living under constant threat of military violence.
