Thirteen political prisoners detained at Thihlin Township Police Station in Magway Region managed to escape on the night of June 17, as confirmed by local resistance forces. These political prisoners had been arbitrarily detained without proper legal proceedings or formal charges, accused of supporting People’s Defense Forces. During their escape, five of the fleeing prisoners, including a woman in her 50s, encountered a landmine. The woman was killed instantly while the other four sustained minor injuries, according to local resistance forces.
Local revolutionary forces welcomed the escaped prisoners and transported those who were injured to a medical facility in the liberated area for necessary treatment. The body of the deceased female political prisoner was properly buried by members of the People’s Defense Force. The remaining political prisoners are being safely transported to their desired destinations, according to resistance force officials. The escaped prisoners had been detained without proper legal proceedings or formal charges, merely accused of supporting the People’s Defense Forces.
Following the prisoners’ escape, military council forces arrived at the Thihlin Township Police Station. Under the orders of Deputy Lieutenant Colonel Htein Lin, the township military commander, all prison guard police officers were arrested and subjected to violent interrogation. As a result of this torture and abuse, two police corporals, Myint Aung and Kyaw San Htwe, died. Three other police officers remain in detention and continue to face brutal interrogation, according to local sources. This incident highlights the military council’s pattern of violent retribution against even their own subordinate forces when operations fail, demonstrating the brutal nature of their control over both civilians and service members under their command.
