
In Mawlaik Township, Sagaing Region, 12 soldiers from the military forces have defected to Battalion No. 3 of Mawlaik District, bringing their weapons and ammunition with them, as confirmed by an official from the battalion. This incident, occurring in 2025, demonstrates the growing number of defections from within the military ranks.
The defecting soldiers escaped through various means, with some planning their departure in advance while others risked their lives to flee through dangerous circumstances. They brought their weapons and ammunition with them and arrived at different battalion camps. According to the battalion official, the timing of these defections varied, with soldiers arriving at different periods.
Among those who defected, some have joined the People’s Defense Force (PDF) to fight against the military dictatorship, while others have returned to civilian life and are peacefully working to make a living. Additionally, some are contributing to the revolution through various means. Battalion No. 3 of Mawlaik District has announced that they will continue to welcome any future military personnel who wish to defect.
