The Democratic and National Unity Alliance (DSNDA) intercepted and attacked military council troops moving from Taung Oo village towards Ya Nay village in Ywa Ngan Township, Shan State, resulting in 12 casualties among military forces, according to DSNDA’s Information Officer Kyar Pyan. The clash occurred around 11 AM on July 27, when DSNDA forces launched a combined mine attack and small arms assault against a military column of approximately 240 troops. During the engagement, 10 military council soldiers were killed immediately when the column entered a mined area, with two additional casualties resulting from subsequent small arms fire.
Following the battle, the military council forces transported their dead and wounded to Ya Nay village. Currently, over 200 military council troops are stationed in Ya Nay village and are conducting artillery strikes on nearby villages including Taung Po Gaung, Gway Pin, Sap Chan, Taung Oo, and Teh Lu. The military forces have also been carrying out arrests and beatings of local civilians. Reports confirm that five civilians were arrested and beaten before being taken to Ywa Ngan town. The military presence in the area has created a tense situation, with ongoing harassment and violence against local residents.
The DSNDA has issued warnings to local residents to avoid areas where military council troops are present, as military tensions continue to escalate throughout Ywa Ngan Township. Given the military council’s ongoing violence against civilians, the DSNDA has emphasized the need for residents to remain vigilant about their safety. The organization has advised locals to avoid unnecessary travel and to prepare emergency evacuation plans for their security. The situation remains volatile, with the military council maintaining a significant presence in the area and continuing their campaign of intimidation and violence against the civilian population.
