
The People’s Defense Force in Wetlet Township has confirmed the successful arrest of 11 suspects involved in a murder-robbery case in Shataung village, Sagaing Region, along with their weapons and related items. The incident occurred around 11:30 PM on July 13, when the victim, Ko Nyaung Pin Gyi, was stabbed to death and robbed in Shataung village. Local People’s Defense Forces conducted a coordinated operation to apprehend the perpetrators.
The investigation led to the initial arrest of three main suspects – Pu Tu Ma, Jam Jam, and Bay Lay – around 4 AM the following day by the Uyinma village People’s Defense Force and People’s Power Force. Subsequently, the township PDF and Duntekone PDF teams captured four more suspects: Thiha, Mandalay, Kyaung Net, and Aung Myoe. The Kyauktaing village PDF and People’s Power Force arrested two more suspects – Hmat Gyi and Twut Pi (a member of the Thakuttar PDF), while the Lethlutaung village PDF from Depayin Township apprehended the final two suspects – Pauk Sa and Lay Pwe (a member of the Kyikan PDF).
The seized evidence from the suspects included 13 mobile phones, one MA-1 rifle, one AK-47 rifle, three homemade short guns, various ammunition, five short swords, four motorcycles, 9.6 million kyats in cash, one bank card, phone bill cards, and other related items. Among those arrested, two were identified as members of village-level People’s Defense Forces, one from the Meiktila Battalion, three were civilians, one was under organization verification, and four were identified as illegal arms bearers. The suspects have been transferred to the Wetlet Township People’s Security Force for further investigation and legal proceedings after their confessions to the township PDF intelligence officer and Shwebo District Battalion 1 Investigation Officer.
